Our first 2 weeks on rotations are coming to a close. And I can honestly say...Heck-to-the-yeah! This has been the best 2 weeks ever! I have my husband back. You know, the one I married. Well maybe not the guy who was present during our first year of marriage...but the guy I dated and then married. THAT ONE! He's funny, talkative (in a good way...not in the constant complaining and whining about studying way), engaged with our kids, and most of all he is PRESENT. Not just his body (which is what I have been settling for the last 2 years) but his MIND is present. His heart is back. I see the excitement in his eyes when the alarm clock goes off and he jumps in the shower. I see him bounce out the door and know that he's singing in the car on the way to the clinic. He comes home and tells me all the cool things he learned and experienced that day. And then actually asks me how my day was! Seriously. I've really missed this guy.
Now, all that being said, he did luck out and have his first rotation in orthopedic surgery which happens to be one of his electives. He chose 2 electives that he really thinks he might want to pursue a job in after graduation. The group he is with are guys guys and they probably all liked 8th grade shop class. Now, they just drill, saw, hammer, and add hardware to bodies instead of birdhouses. Husband is in HEAVEN! They have been great about allowing him to assist in surgeries and really be hands on (which I will spare you the details of).
I know that some of the rotations to come won't be as fun and exciting, but for now, we are going to ride this train to the end. And love every minute.
