This is a story about an event so CRAZY that I had to wait until it was all over before I writing about it. HUSBAND MISSED A FINAL! Yes, you are reading the words correctly. Yes, MY HUSBAND, Mr. "President of his class, PA Ambassador, never misses a lecture or lab or review session" missed a final!!! He took a final this morning that was actually scheduled for YESTERDAY MORNING!! Here's how it all went down.
The schedule is a "living breathing" changing entity and apparently Husband had an old version that showed 2 finals today. So yesterday, around 11:20am, I looked at a printed copy I have (because yes, I keep a copy for myself so that I can see what's coming up) and see that he was supposed to have taken a final at 9am. I know for a fact that Husband is sitting at his favorite coffee shop studying thinking that he has 2 tests the next day. So I sent a text to one of his classmates (another advantage of the spouse becoming friends with other PA students) and she confirmed my fear...the rest of the class had taken the final at 9am. So I panicked (insert freaked out, almost threw up, felt faint, and all other conditions that are caused by rapid heart beat) and called Husband to tell him the bad news. At this point I'm literally shaking and feeling like I'm going to have a panic attack. You know the feeling when your alarm doesn't go off and you wake up at the time you're supposed to be somewhere? YEAH...multiply that by 10,000!
So Husband begins to panic with me and says A LOT of bad words. He called the PA office and they tell him to calm down (thank goodness they said it, cause I sure wasn't calm). I can only imagine what he sounded like on the phone. He called the professor and left a message. Then, he sent emails to the professor and to an adviser. At this point, it is my lunch hour so I have rushed home to try to calm Husband down (which meant I had to calm myself down first). We literally got down on our knees together and prayed a prayer asking God for Grace and Mercy*. I prayed that as the professor and adviser read their emails and heard the voice messages that they would have a soft heart. I prayed for Husband not to have a heart attack (cause I'm not ready to be a widow). We knew God was in control, but this was really beginning to feel like an episode of 'Punked' (I was waiting for Ashton to walk in any minute).
A little after 1:00pm Husband got a call from a staff member telling him that he could come in this morning and take his final in the PA office. PRAISE GOD! Talk about relief! I almost cried when he called to tell me the good news!
So take-away lesson from this: CHECK, DOUBLE CHECK, AND TRIPLE CHECK the schedule! (and then pray when you screw up!)
*Grace is when God gives you a blessing you don't deserve (Romans 3:24). Mercy is when He withholds the punishment you do deserve (Deuteronomy 13:17) .
Thank goodness this had a happy ending! Reminds me of what I have found to be an almost universal nightmare we all have in college--that it is the end of the semester, time for finals, and you realize all semester you forgot to attend a class for which you were registered, and now it is too late to drop.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you're PAs 2 now!
